Can You Use Older Lenses On A Nikon D3100

Q. I have a few older lenses with the first Nikon-f film camera, like the 1:14 55mm lens. I put them on my new Nikon D3100 cam, and they fitted perfectly, and I could see through them, but the camera said 'No Lens Attached'. Is there any way I can fix this so I can use these lenses?

A. If you want to use such older lenses, you need one of the Nikon dSLR's that are better than entry level, like your fine D3100 or D5100. To possibly use that lens on your camera, you need to tell your camera you are using a NON-CPU lens. You will also need to use an external meter, since manually focusing lenses cannot use the meter in your specific camera
